Churchill was the biggest winner at the recently concluded Youtube Creator’s Awards held at the exclusive Mövenpick Hotel & Residences Nairobi.
The comedy giant received the highly coveted Youtube Gold Play Button for his milestone in reaching 1 million subscribers. This makes him the second Kenyan to ever get the award after Citizen TV.
Coincidentally, he was celebrating his birthday on the big day so double blessings. He is truly living his best life.
Faaaam! We made it 🔥🔥
Such a timely gift.. hii ata si imetosha birthday.
Thanks to the Churchill show family, our comedians and you, our fans for getting us to this milestone.#YouTubeGoldButtonAward #Google4Kenya pic.twitter.com/x4NJKglP5o

Apparently, despite being presented his award by Kenya’s cabinet secretary sports, culture and heritage Amb. (Dr). Amina C. Mohamed together with Charles Murito who is the Google Kenya Country Director and Dorothy Ooko, Africa PR Lead for Google, his plaque was missing.

If the claims are true, then someone walked away with a 24-Karat gold button worth a lot of money. The button is made of gold-plated brass and is quite rare and hard to acquire especially in Africa where subscribing is not a thing.
On top of the number of subscribers, Youtube ensures that creators have adhered to their stringent rules before awarding them. Some of the rules include having a YouTube account which is in “good standing” and does not have any copyright strikes on the account.
An account will not get awarded if it has violated YouTube’s Community Guidelines. These include avoiding harmful, nude or sexual content. Creators are also expected to create original content. Following all these guidelines got Mwalimu Churchill to the top.
While many Kenyan creators haven’t reached the height of his success yet, a few new faces got the award below him known as the Silver Play Button. Creators such as Joanna Kinuthia, Wabosha Maxine, Wajesus Family, Waniz Sharon and Alex Mathenge got awarded the silver play button for reaching 100K subscribers on the platform.
